Kipper the dog!

About me and my work

I have been designing and making jewellery since graduating from Buckinghamshire College far too long ago to mention!

I shared a studio with other jewellers in Hove for many years but now I work from my own studio which is where I can be found most days working under the watchful gaze of my cocker spaniel, Kipper.

My earlier work is mostly concerned with shape and form but after a lovely few months travelling 5 years ago I came home overflowing with inspiration and produced my 'mixed metals' range.

I work with both non-precious and precious metals. Copper and brass are wonderful for creating colour and subtle tones and I combine them with silver to create vibrant and contrasting pieces.

Recently, I have become more interested in etching to create texture and pattern and my most recent work is the 'Flowered' range. I use the etching process to create the surface design and also use a rolling mill. When etching there is an element to the process which is not entirely in my control, so it is very satisfying when a piece etches really well!

I finish each piece by part oxidising, polishing and using wire wool to add contrast and depth to the design.
